NEW YORK, September 25. /TASS/. Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in good health and in full control of his country, the Islamic Republic’s President Masoud Pezeshkian told Fox News in an interview.
When asked whether Khamenei was in good health and able to govern the country, the president replied: "Very much so, completely."
"The implementation of [his] course is in the hands of the administration and the government," Pezeshkian continued, adding that "directions come" from the supreme leader.
Answering to the question of why the recordings of Khamenei’s speeches and addresses are not regularly published, he said that "the lack of security was a result of foreign actions."
The president went on to say that he had communicated with the supreme leader in person recently.
"I don’t remember the exact date. It could be approximately a month or a month and a half ago. Our meeting lasted for seven hours," he said. "We spoke face to face."
Mojtaba Khamenei became Iran's Supreme Leader following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, as a result of missile strikes launched by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic.
The United States and Israel began a war with Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, on the night of July 8, the US resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Subsequently, the US administration effectively signaled an end to the use of large-scale military force against Iran, shifting toward an attempt to economically strangle the country through sanctions.
