A teenager who was attacked by a gang of youths inside a Glasgow shopping centre has been treated in hospital for his injuries.

Video posted on social media shows the young man, who was using a crutch and wearing a medical boot, being knocked to the ground, then repeatedly punched and kicked inside the St Enoch Centre on Friday afternoon.

A second person was also pushed to the ground but security staff intervened.

Police Scotland said the 19-year-old was taken to hospital and a 17-year-old boy was later arrested and charged following investigations.

The attackers had run off by the time officers arrived and the injured man, who was bleeding from a head wound, was initially helped by shoppers and security staff.

The St Enoch Centre is located inside the Glasgow city centre dispersal zone which was established in March as part of a crackdown on crime and anti-social behaviour.

Officers are able to ask groups of two or more to leave the designated area if their behaviour is "impacting on the safety and well-being" of others, and they can be banned from returning for 24 hours.

The attack came just a few days after it was confirmed that the dispersal zone powers would be extended into December.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 17-year-old male has been arrested and charged following enquiries into a disturbance in the St Enoch Centre in Glasgow.

"The incident happened around 3.35pm on Friday, 2 October, 2026. He has been released on an undertaking and will appear in court at a later date."
