The 61st Trofeo Luigi Fagioli enters its key month, and today (July 20) marks the opening of registrations for the first "final" of the Italian Supersalita Championship. During the week and weekend of August 23, the eagerly awaited Umbrian hillclimb, recognized as the "Monte Carlo of Hillclimbs," will turn the city of Gubbio into the nerve centre of the discipline and of an increasingly prestigious and focused series of initiatives designed for everyone — from the drivers themselves to spectators, from young people to families — all increasingly drawn to centre stage to experience every facet of a major sporting event that remains first and foremost a motor racing competition, but for over sixty years has also meant discovery, reciprocity, culture, nature and entertainment. Credit goes to the key players, to all the local and non-local organisations and bodies that support it, and to the many volunteers, starting with the organizers of the Comitato Eugubino Corse Automobilistiche (CECA), who, under the chairmanship of Fabrizio Fondacci, are confirming further refinements in logistical, hospitality and participation standards for the 61st consecutive edition. Work is progressing at a fast pace on all fronts, and registrations for the 61st Trofeo Luigi Fagioli will remain open until Monday, August 17 at 11:59 p.m., and as has now become customary, must be completed online. The straightforward procedure used in recent years has been confirmed, involving a pre-registration step in the reserved area of the ACI portal, followed by completion of the process through the website http://rallyenter.it, where drivers, teams and clubs can find the necessary forms. For further information or instructions, the official website www.trofeofagioli.it can always be consulted. The Gubbio race course will also be inspected shortly. The 4,150 metres stretching from the gates of the distinctive medieval city to the Madonna della Cima pass will be further refined and set up to the highest safety standards to best accommodate both spectators and racing cars: in addition to serving as the penultimate round and first "final" of the 2026 Supersalita — with live coverage on AciSport TV — the Trofeo Fagioli on August 21–23 will count towards the Italian Mountain Speed Championship (CIVM) North and South, the Italian Two-Cylinder Championship and the Assominicar Challenge, and will award the Coppa Città di Gubbio in the competition reserved for historic cars (which will contest two practice runs and two race runs). The 2026 edition already enjoyed a prestigious preview in March, bringing together friends, institutions, partners and many students, between the gala that unveiled the official poster in the presence of many special guests and the road safety event held in schools featuring former Formula 1 driver Andrea Montermini. The final touches are now awaited before the full programme is revealed — one that will get underway even before the Ferragosto holiday and continue through to Sunday the 23rd: new and renewed initiatives are expected, including the Memorial Barbetti, a fully immersive "arena paddock show" at the heart of the Roman Theatre area, exhibitions, talks, music, performances, food and drink, parades, tuning events and car and motorcycle gatherings, as well as a football match between AS Gubbio veterans and the National Hillclimb Drivers team. The race programme, however, has already been published in the regulations: Friday, August 21 will be devoted to technical and sporting scrutineering; Saturday, August 22 from 9:30 a.m. will see the start of the two official practice runs; and Sunday, August 23 at 9:00 a.m. will bring the highlight of the event.
of the two races of the Tricolore Supersalita, with live television coverage and the crowning, in addition to the overall winner, of some possible 2026 Italian Champions, given that as the first "final" Gubbio presents an increased score coefficient of 1.5 and puts very important points up for grabs in the championship standings. In 2025, the 60th edition, with the unpredictable rain that fell towards the end of race 1, surprisingly smiled on Ivan Pezzolla. On a Wolf prototype, the Apulian driver achieved his first overall victory in Supersalita, preceding on the podium the Tuscan driver from Pieve Santo Stefano Michele Gregori and the Florentine ace Simone Faggioli, both on Nova Proto.
