Amazon aims to double its electric vehicle fleet in Italy by 2030, which currently numbers "500 vehicles." "We plan to double them by 2030," said Amazon's international director of robotics Stefano La Rovere, during the Festival of Sustainable Mobility and Smart Cities, currently underway in Rome, explaining that "electrification of fleets is a priority."
For the manager, however, conventional electric vans are often not suited to Italian historic city centres, where driving is difficult due to narrow streets "and often with particular road surfaces, such as cobblestones." Hence the decision to test new micromobility models: in Florence, La Rovere recounted, a pilot project involving "pedal-assisted cargo bikes" has launched "for the first time in Italy." According to La Rovere, other projects of this kind will be trialled in Italy.
