Palghar: A court on Friday sent suspended
Shiv Sena district chief Kundan Sankhe and 21 other accused to judicial custody in connection with the ruckus at Relief Hospital in Palghar city. First Class Judicial Magistrate Sujata Bandal rejected the police’s plea seeking two more days of custody for investigation.
Rahul Gharat, another accused in the case, had already been remanded in judicial custody. The court has reserved its order on the bail application of Rohit Rajendra Gavit, son of an MLA.
The incident occurred on Sept 5 after a member of a Govinda troupe was injured during Dahi Handi celebrations and was brought to the hospital for treatment.
Gharat was arrested on Sept 7, while Gavit was arrested on Sept 12. Sankhe and other named accused subsequently appeared before police on Sept 13.
Police have so far arrested 23 people in the case.
