LONDON, October 26. /TASS/. To end the conflict with Russia, Ukraine must compromise and give up the territories inhabited by Russian-speaking peoples as well as its aspiration to join NATO, said Matthew Parris, a columnist for The Times.

According to him, Ukraine must renounce its claims to Crimea and make "a review of the eastern lands where Russian is the first language of most."

Parris said that Kiev should also not seek NATO membership, given Moscow’s position on the issue, but join the European Union instead.

As a guarantee of security for Ukraine, he proposed the presence of European, American, and international observers on its territory.

Parris described the position of British and Ukrainian politicians and experts who say that Kiev should not compromise the territorial issue as unrealistic. He pointed out that such a position would result in a humanitarian catastrophe for Ukraine and would drain the economic resources of European countries.
