RIO DE JANEIRO, October 26. /TASS/. Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, who lost in Sunday’s runoff presidential election in Brazil, has abandoned his plans to seek the annulment of the second-round results under the pressure from his allies, the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, Bolsonaro was dissuaded from seeking to challenge the voting legitimacy by his lawyers and key allies, including prominent senators and Sao Paulo State Governor Tarcisio de Freitas. They cited the lack of concrete legal arguments and the unfavorable balance of power for the senator in the courts and warned of new political risks. They called on Bolsonaro to consider the election "a closed chapter."

The second round of Brazil’s presidential election took place on October 25. According to the electoral commission, after 100% of ballots had been counted, Lula da Silva was reelected president with 51.79% of the vote. His fourth term as head of state will begin on January 5, 2027.
