ATLANTA /USA/, October 31. /TASS/. Russia has not changed its stance ahead of the talks on Ukraine, Moscow will not tolerate the Kiev regime being a threat to its legitimate security interests, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
"Our position has not changed, it has never changed since the beginning of the special military operation, its objectives have been announced," he told a news conference after day one of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta.
"We do not accept Ukraine posing a military threat to Russia’s legitimate security interests, nor do we accept the West’s plans to turn Ukraine into such a permanent threat. We do not accept the blatant discrimination against the Russian language and Russian-speaking population. Ukraine is the only country where the [Russian] language is banned by a number of laws. And, naturally, we do not accept a situation where Ukraine is pursuing a Nazi ideology and policy," he stressed.
"These objectives have not changed. We appreciate the position of the administration of US President Donald Trump, which was the first and remains the only Western country to recognize the root causes of the special military operation, this Ukrainian crisis. They [the Trump administration] have recognized the need to resolve the situation by addressing the root causes and taking full account of the situation on the ground," Lavrov noted. "We discussed and agreed on this at the summit in Anchorage in August 2025. Regrettably, the situation is different now, and the Trump administration has failed to ensure that its own proposals, which were fully supported by Russia, were accepted by the Ukrainian regime. Regrettably, that is what has been missed."
According to the top Russian diplomat, this stems from the Europeans’ actions, who immediately began trying to persuade Trump not to insist on implementing the American proposals supported by the Russian side.
