Overhead display left dangling at airport’s Terminal 2, investigation under way
Airport Authority says a maintenance team promptly attended to the malfunctioning screen and cordoned off the area
An overhead electronic display was left dangling in the air at Hong Kong airport’s newly reopened Terminal 2, prompting authorities to pledge a detailed investigation.
A spokesman said the incident occurred at about 8.30am on Saturday, when a suspended screen “experienced a technical fault”, triggering its fall-arrest safety system.
“The Airport Authority takes the incident very seriously and will conduct a detailed investigation into the cause, with a view to further enhancing the stability of the system,” the spokesman said.
Terminal 2’s departure facilities reopened on May 27 as part of the airport’s HK$141.5 billion (US$18.1 billion) three-runway system upgrade.
Passengers using the terminal can check in, clear immigration and undergo security screening there before returning to Terminal 1 for departure.
