The GIP (preliminary investigation judge) of Bari has validated the arrest and issued a precautionary custody order in prison against Elvis Metvelaj, the 42-year-old Albanian national believed to be the perpetrator of the femicide of Ornella Forastefano, 46, who was left dying on the morning of August 16 outside the hospital in Trebisacce and subsequently died as a result of deep wounds and trauma across her entire body. At the same time, the judge declared himself incompetent and ordered the transfer of the case documents to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Castrovillari (Cosenza), which has territorial jurisdiction. Metvelaj had been detained at the port of Bari while attempting to return to his home country.
