Teenager attacked by bees in Greater BH area shows improvement and is expected to leave the ICU, says family

The 12-year-old student attacked earlier this week by a swarm of bees in Ibirité, a city in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, has shown improvement in her clinical condition and is expected to be transferred from the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) to an observation room this Saturday (19).

The information was released by the girl's family on Friday (18). They also stated that she is not at risk of developing cardiac arrhythmia or kidney failure, complications commonly associated with attacks involving large numbers of bees.

The SSA (Autonomous Social Service) of Contagem, which manages the Hospital and Materno Infantil Center of Contagem where the teenager is hospitalized, reports that the patient remains in stable condition under the care of the medical team. The hospital has not confirmed a discharge date.

The incident occurred at around 1:00 p.m. on Monday (14), near the entrance of a school.

According to the Fire Department, children, teenagers, and pedestrians in the area were attacked by a swarm of bees after the hive fell from a tree.

The moment was captured by motorcyclist Vinícius Martins de Paulo, who produces motovlog content on social media.

A video posted on his profile shows the young girl surrounded by the swarm outside the school, screaming in apparent shock.

Vinícius attempted to use a deodorant spray to disperse the insects while guiding the teenager back into the school. There, a group of staff members used a water hose to drive the bees away.

The content went viral and has accumulated approximately 20 million views on Instagram, with numerous comments praising the motorcyclist's actions. A group of influencers went as far as gifting him a new car and a new motorcycle.

With the fall of the hive, according to the Fire Department, the swarm dispersed, which expanded the area of the insects' attack.

The department reported that some students required treatment due to stings and were assisted by SAMU (Mobile Emergency Care Service).

The Military Police cordoned off the perimeter of the site until the insects were fully removed by the fire department unit, a process completed on Monday night.

Classes at the municipal school, which were suspended following the attack, resumed the following day.
