LONDON, October 6. /TASS/. Many insurers stopped covering risks related to vessels that call Ukrainian ports, UK-based maritime security company Ambrey told TASS.

"Due to the large losses sustained by the industry, many underwriters no longer offer cover for Ukraine port calls despite the WRP [War Risk Premium - TASS] rates climbing into double digits," the company said.

Higher navigation threat is currently recorded for the Black Sea as a result of the military campaign initiated by Ukraine and Russian involuntary tit-for-tat action. "Romanian and Bulgarian waters should no longer be treated as safe by default," the company noted. " Merchant vessels are now exposed to kinetic activity within the EEZs of two NATO member states," it added.

"As Russian strikes degraded the Odessa-cluster ports, the Danube's share of cargo handled at Ukrainian ports rose from around 10% in January-June to 74% in August 2026," Ambrey said. In parallel to that, "Danube-related attacks have risen in step with volumes: 3.7 times as many events a month in July-September as in January-June," the company noted.
