MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. Slovakia considers it unacceptable to use frozen Russian assets to finance the Ukrainian army, Slovak Parliament Deputy Speaker Tibor Gaspar said in an interview with TASS.
"Regarding the issue of frozen Russian assets, Slovakia stressed the need for a thorough legal assessment, prudence, and consideration of the long-term consequences of decisions made. In November 2025, Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico rejected the proposal to confiscate frozen Russian assets and use them to fund Ukraine’s military needs. Such an approach [of confrontation and confiscation] is unacceptable," he said.
Fico highlighted potential legal proceedings, the risk of retaliatory measures, and the implications of such a move for future peace negotiations, Gaspar noted. "At the same time, he emphasized that using these assets for Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction could be more appropriate than directing them toward the continued financing of military operations. The Slovak Republic is interested in ensuring that any decision in this area has a clear legal basis, complies with international obligations, and reduces the risk of a further deterioration in international relations. At the same time, it is necessary to seek sustainable solutions for financing the reconstruction of Ukraine that will promote regional stability and create the conditions for achieving lasting peace," he explained.
