The greater São Paulo metropolitan area is expected to have another dry morning this Wednesday (22), with relative humidity around 25% and temperatures that could reach 28°C — with a low of 18°C.
But that's likely where it ends. A weather change is forecast to be felt as early as late afternoon, due to the advance of a cold front forming in the south of the country.
According to the CGE (Emergency Management Center) of the São Paulo City Hall, cloud cover is expected to shift the scene from clear skies in the morning throughout the day.
Rain is expected on Thursday (23) and Friday (24) in the state capital, according to forecasts from Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology).
Due to increased cloudiness and rainfall, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 20°C and 21°C at the end of the week. Rain is not expected on Saturday (25), but skies are likely to remain cloudy.
The forecast is the same for nearly the entire coastline of the state, though maximum temperatures could approach 25°C over the weekend.
The weather change on Thursday may improve air quality in the state of São Paulo. According to Civil Defense, in Ribeirão Preto the humidity index reached 22% on Tuesday (21) — levels below 60% are considered harmful to health.
STORM WARNING
Southern Brazil continues to face a potential danger alert for storms, according to Inmet.
In addition, data from the Rio Grande do Sul Civil Defense shows that in Porto Mauá, near the border with Argentina, there was 93.8 mm of accumulated rainfall in just six hours on Tuesday.
In Paraí, a volume of 174 millimeters was recorded; in Marau, an accumulated total of 157 millimeters; and in Passo Fundo, 154 millimeters in less than 12 hours.
The rivers in that region flow into the Taquari River. As a result, its level is expected to continue rising over the coming days as water drains through its tributaries.
"Starting Wednesday afternoon, the most critical estimated scenario brings the possibility of the Taquari River slightly reaching the flood stage, beginning at Encantado, with greater attention to the municipalities of Estrela and Lajeado," says Civil Defense.
The Climatempo agency states that the cold front is advancing across the entire South region and, together with a low-pressure area near the coast, is reinforcing the formation of instability.
Bursts of rain are expected from the morning in Porto Alegre. In the metropolitan area, forecasts point to a rise in the level of Lake Guaíba within 24 to 72 hours.
"The trend is for the lake to approach the alert level [at the Cais and Gasômetro stations]," the agency states, adding that as of Tuesday night there was no forecast that the flood level would be reached.
Rain is also possible in Santa Catarina and Paraná.
