MOSCOW, October 29. /TASS/. Russian companies are interested in relocating some of their production facilities to African countries, especially amid sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Russia-Africa summit.
Following a speech by President of the Republic of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye who is currently chairman of the African Union, in which he addressed cooperation in areas such as investment, infrastructure projects, agriculture, energy, and education, Putin said: "I won’t say anything unexpected, but this is entirely in Russia’s interests, especially in today’s environment, with numerous sanctions being applied to the Russian economy and Russian enterprises. Our companies are interested in relocating certain production facilities to African countries."
This interest is mutual, he said, adding though that it is important to make sure that decisions made by African nations remain sovereign, and that investments are secure and protected. "So that this can function regardless of the external political environment. Our companies possess significant investment potential. I assure you, there is plenty here to work on," the Russian leader noted.
