"The phenomenon of violence against women, against anyone, which previously was not even given adequate attention, is a primary emergency in the life of our country, as it is everywhere." This was stated by President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella at the end of his visit to the "Stanza Rosa" at the emergency room of the Misericordia hospital in Grosseto.

"There are two reasons why I am here," he explained, "the first is to underline and bear witness to the alarm that continues to be present – not just awareness, but alarm – and the commitment that what is happening demands of us."

The head of state continued: "The numbers are significantly troubling: last year there were 97 femicides, and in the first half of this year there have already been 324 – this is a public commitment of the Republic."
