Mumbai: An underage son of a businessman was reportedly caught riding a scooter during a police bandobast in Bandra (W) on Sunday. Bandra police apprehended the 17-year-old along with his friend who was riding pillion (another minor) and charged his father for allowing him to take the scooter for a ride from Chinchbunder locality in Dongri to Bandra (W).
The minor was stopped by Bandra traffic police constable Sangita Patil when she spotted the minor riding the two-wheeler at Mehboob Circle at 11.15 am. Another boy was riding pillion. “Patil stopped the rider and found that he was under 18 and did not possess a valid driving licence. His father was served notice after learning he knew his son was taking the two-wheeler for a ride,” said a police officer of Bandra police station.
The two-wheeler is owned by Altaf M Siddiqui Hingora, a 45-year-old businessman from Chinchbunder, who allegedly told the police that he had given the vehicle to his son to ride. “Patil filed the complaint against him, stating that allowing a minor to drive could endanger the rider and other citizens,” said the police.
Hingora has been booked under Motor Vehicle Act sections 180 (allowing unauthorised persons to drive vehicles) and 181 (penalises driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence or in contravention of age limits with Rs 5,000 fine. Further, the person could be sent to three months imprisonment if found guilty) for giving the vehicle to a minor boy, knowing that he is a minor.
