MOSCOW, October 6. /TASS/. Sierra Leone is ready to deepen cooperation with Russia in the mining sector, Mohamed Yongawo, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Russia, said in an interview with TASS on the sidelines of the 9th International Forum "North Caucasus: A Space for Dialogue, Traditions, and Development."

According to the ambassador, efforts are already underway to involve Russian companies in developing the West African nation's mineral deposits.

"We already have a memorandum of understanding with JSC Zarubezhgeologia (the agreement and memorandum of understanding were signed during SPIEF-2024 -- TASS) and a memorandum of understanding [and cooperation in the sphere of subsoil use and geological exploration] between Sierra Leone and the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (signed in January 2024 -- TASS). Negotiations are already in progress on how to deepen these relations so that the Russian and Sierra Leonean sides can reach a common understanding regarding mining operations in our country. And not just that, because we know that Russia certainly possesses vast experience in this field," he said.

Yongawo added that Sierra Leone is keen to acquire Russian technologies and expertise in the mining sector. "Negotiations between our ministries are still ongoing. I hope that in due course, we will find common ground in our dialogue, giving both sides a significant boost in this area," he concluded.
