"We must be honest, if we had gone 2-0 down in the first half, Venezia would not have stolen anything. We did everything to let them score, it was one of the worst first halves since I've been at Lazio," declared Lazio manager Gennaro Gattuso after the 2-0 victory over Venezia. "The second half was much better, we started to work well with the chains, the cross and the penalty came from that." Lazio are top of the table but Gattuso is keeping his feet on the ground. "There is great satisfaction but 27 points are still missing before we can work with peace of mind. The credit goes to the players for the seriousness they are putting in."
At the end of the match Gattuso went to greet the away supporters, showing great empathy. "They are well-behaved fans, the truth is simple: they don't come to the stadium but they let us work in peace. They don't put pressure on us. We put pressure on ourselves — when you play in a shirt like Lazio's, the pressure is always there." Then again on his team's first-half performance: "The match was straightforward, very easy to read. We were too stretched, we played ping pong, we played into their hands. We did everything to let them score, but they didn't manage it." And on the transfer market: "I have to thank Fabiani and Lotito for the players who have arrived."
