The first abrupt halt of the season for Arsenal. The Gunners, who had been on a perfect score in the Premier League until now, collapse on Brighton's ground, with Brighton winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Gross and Kostoulas in the first half and Andres in the second. Manchester City, tomorrow, will have the chance to move to the top of the table alone against Sunderland. "I am very disappointed, it was a great lesson, a warning to some of the players about how difficult every match can be," said manager Mikel Arteta after the game. "I hope it helps us understand what it takes to win at this level."

SPAIN

Barcelona's goal-scoring carousel shows no sign of slowing down. In the midweek fixture they put seven past Racing Santander, with a hat-trick from Raphinha who is already on nine goals. The Blaugrana are on a perfect score after six matches, having scored 28 goals, four and a half per game. Now La Liga serves up two marquee fixtures involving the top five: Flick's Barça are in action away at Sevilla, a side that appears reborn after years of mediocre performances.

But the highlight takes place at the Metropolitano, which hosts the Madrid derby between Atletico, five points behind the Blaugrana, and Mourinho's Real, three points back. It will be a gripping contest between two managers who have crossed paths many times before. Atletico, who have not won the derby since the 5-2 of a year ago, are revitalising David, who was a ghost at Juventus but has returned to scoring regularly and is expected to start alongside Alex Baena and Lookman. Real line up again with Bellingham, Mbappé and Vinicius, but fans continue to look with suspicion at the style of play Mourinho imposes, one that concedes too much defensively. Betis, who knocked out Real as well, could take advantage of the head-to-head clashes; they are playing in La Coruña. Despite their victory over Málaga, Villarreal are still low in the table and attempt to climb it by hosting Levante.

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane scored his 100th Bundesliga goal this evening at the Allianz Arena, in his 98th league match, breaking the previous German record held by Dieter Müller with Cologne in the 1970s. In the 38th minute, Michael Olise was brought down in the penalty area by Union Berlin defender Tom Rothe. Harry Kane sent goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow the wrong way to score Bayern's second goal, after Jamal Musiala had opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Having joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, Kane has finished as Bundesliga top scorer in each of his three seasons, netting 36 goals in 2023-24, 26 in 2024-25 and a further 36 in 2025-26. He has also won the European Golden Shoe twice, in the summers of 2024 and 2026. This season, he opened his personal Bundesliga account last week at Elversberg, scoring Bayern's winner in a 2-1 victory. Across all competitions, Kane has scored 154 goals in 151 appearances for Bayern in just over three seasons. Before Kane, the record belonged to Dieter Müller. The Cologne striker took 129 matches to reach 100 Bundesliga goals in the early 1970s. Across Europe's five major leagues — Germany, England, Spain, France, Italy — only Cristiano Ronaldo reached the milestone in fewer matches, doing so in 92 games with Real Madrid in La Liga in the early 2010s.

PSG won the European Super Cup and began their Champions League campaign by thrashing Slovan Bratislava. But the champions are struggling domestically, sitting five points behind the three leaders Lille, Monaco and Rennes. As in recent years, Luis Enrique is carefully managing his squad's workload ahead of such a long season: on Sunday they face a fallen giant in Marseille, who are floundering and were hammered 4-1 by Vincenzo Italiano's Besiktas in the Europa League. The standout fixture is the clash between Lyon and Rennes, while Monaco host Thauvin's Lens and Davide Ancelotti's Lille should win comfortably away at Nice, who are bottom of the table.

In the Netherlands, PSV seek their sixth consecutive win away at Twente on Sunday at 2:30pm, while joint leaders AZ, level on points, host Telstar at the same time. In Portugal, there is a big match on Sunday at 9:30pm between Porto, managed by Farioli and top of the table with a perfect record after six games, and Benfica, two points behind, who won comfortably in Milan. In Turkey, there is a Salah versus Osimhen showdown tomorrow at 7pm as league leaders Galatasaray travel to Trabzonspor. Besiktas, managed by Italiano and one point behind in second place, are in action away at newly promoted Amedspor on Sunday at 7pm.
