Matteo Ghisleri is the winner of the 31st edition of "Campiello Giovani," the literary competition aimed at young people between the ages of 15 and 21 organised by the Fondazione Il Campiello-Confindustria Veneto.
Ghisleri, 22, from Vercelli, won the prize with his short story "Ricalcolo percorso" ("Recalculating Route"), chosen by the Jury of Literary Experts chaired by Ermanno Paccagnini and composed of Giulia Belloni, Michela Possamai and Daniela Tonolini, from among the five stories that reached the final. The finalists had been selected from 15 semi-finalists, identified from 168 stories submitted from Italy and abroad.
The award was motivated "for its suspended atmosphere, poised between reality and an indefinite elsewhere. A text with a personal and recognisable style, narrated from the perspective of a young man travelling with his aunts and uncles and grandfather to his grandmother's funeral. A successful 'surreal bubble' that Ghisleri creates, in which a rare, anxiety-free sense of waiting prevails. It addresses death, which may already be drawing close to them."
The announcement took place during the closing day of Campiello Giovani 2026, hosted at the H-Farm Campus in Roncade (Treviso). For Mariacristina Gribaudi, President of the Prize's Management Committee, "Campiello Giovani is above all a space in which new generations can give shape to their own view of the world. The stories of our finalists give us back questions, anxieties and perspectives that also help us to read the present with greater awareness."
