A paraglider, a British citizen of Italian origin, was rescued today in Fiumefreddo Bruzio, in the Lower Tyrrhenian area of the province of Cosenza, after becoming stuck in a tree during his flight. The man had taken off from Monte Cocuzzo, the highest peak of the Coastal Chain of the Calabrian Apennines, when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the paraglider and ended up caught among the branches.
Unable to climb down from the tree on his own, he raised the alarm using his mobile phone and provided rescuers with directions to locate his position. A team of firefighters from the Paola detachment responded to the scene with a vehicle equipped with a cherry picker. The man was recovered in good health and without any injuries.
