MUMBAI: Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) and Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) on Thursday announced an agreement to develop eight hotels with over 2,000 rooms across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Guwahati.

“Adani Airports has formed Adani Airport City Limited to develop a land bank of over 655 acres across eight airports in seven states, including nearly 440 acres in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai,” it said in a press statement.

Adani Airport City Ltd said that, in the first phase, it plans to invest over Rs 20,000 crore to develop around 22 million sq ft across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati.

The hotels will operate under IHCL’s Taj, Vivanta, Gateway and Ginger brands. The portfolio will include a Taj hotel at Terminal 2 of Mumbai airport, while Navi Mumbai is among the locations earmarked for Adani’s broader Airport City development programme.

Jeet Adani, director, Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, said: “Across the world, leading airports are evolving into integrated destinations that serve as catalysts for commerce, tourism and urban growth. Our partnership with IHCL is an important step in this journey, bringing together our hospitality-led mixed-use destinations and India’s leading hospitality company to create world-class hotels across key airport cities with its brands including the iconic Taj.

”

The agreement covers three Taj hotels, two Vivanta properties, one Gateway hotel and two Ginger hotels. The developments will cater to business, leisure and transit travellers, with facilities for dining, meetings, events and recreation.

IHCL said the additions would take its portfolio to 25 hotels across its brands at key airports in India.
