The Carabinieri carried out an extraordinary territorial control operation yesterday evening in Rozzano, the town on the outskirts of Milan where in recent days improvised demonstrations have taken place, a kind of 'vigilante patrol' for security. The checks, carried out with a reinforced Carabinieri presence – part of the strategies defined by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security – focused on areas of greatest urban decay. 57 people were identified, 21 vehicles and one premises were checked. One person was arrested for drug-related offences, and four were reported for drug violations, crimes against property and illegal carrying of weapons. Also yesterday, further extraordinary operations were carried out in Milan by the State Police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza and Local Police: in the afternoon in the Lambrate district and at night in the Darsena and Navigli area. 492 people were identified, 111 vehicles and 22 commercial premises were checked, with fines issued for irregularities found. One person was arrested for drug-related offences, three were reported for drug offences and illegal immigration, while three foreign nationals were taken to the Police Headquarters for identification.
The Carabinieri's report on the recent episodes of 'vigilante justice' and 'patrols' in Rozzano, in the hinterland, has arrived at the Milan prosecutor's office. A phenomenon that began last Wednesday with the beating of a Moroccan man by some bystanders, as he was identified as the person who had moments earlier grabbed a 40-year-old woman, who was subsequently assisted. In the report, which precedes the opening of an investigation, the officers – who in recent days identified two individuals as the perpetrators of the assault on the foreign national – have hypothesised the charge of battery with the aggravating circumstance of racial hatred.
