Franco, Dino and Maria Luisa Ramponi, charged with massacre, possession of explosives and threatening behaviour in connection with the deaths of three carabinieri killed on the night of 14 October 2025 by an explosion at a farmhouse in Castel d'Azzano, on the outskirts of Verona, have been committed to stand trial before the Verona Court of Assizes.
The decision was made by preliminary hearing judge Beatrice Marini, before whom only Franco Ramponi, 66, appeared in person, while Dino (64) and Maria Luisa (60) remained in Trento and Vicenza prisons respectively. The trial will open on 26 October before a panel presided over by Raffaele Ferraro.
The preliminary hearing judge rejected all defence requests for an expert assessment of the three siblings' mental capacity in the context of an evidence-gathering hearing. Also rejected was the application by lawyer Enrico Bastianello, who represents Dino Ramponi, for a no-case-to-answer ruling on the massacre charge on the grounds that his client was outside the farmhouse at the time of the explosion.
Also present in court were some of those injured in the blast and relatives of the victims. "We have full trust in the judiciary — both the investigative and adjudicatory branches," said Fredile Bernadello, father of 36-year-old Davide. "I cannot say we are satisfied, because whatever happens in court will certainly not bring our Davide back to us, but we are confident that a just verdict will be delivered."
