Animal rights activists from the Italian Association for the Defense of Animals and the Environment have announced they will be filing complaints in the coming days with all public prosecutors' offices in Calabria, while simultaneously offering "a reward of 1,000 euros to be paid to anyone who, through their formal report filed within legal terms with law enforcement, enables the identification and definitive conviction of the arsonist or arsonists who use cats or other animals, which then perish, to ignite or fuel wildfires and forest fires." The Civil Protection Agency of Calabria had in fact announced that among the ignition devices found were cats with rags soaked in flammable liquid tied to their tails, which were then set on fire and made to run through tall grass in order to start fires that subsequently spread.
