Thane: Now, retired employees of all 34 Zilla Parishads (ZPs) that function under the vast rural development department of the state would get their pensions on the very first day of every month following a successful launch of a pilot project in Thane, Nagpur and Sangli this month.

“Around 2,250 retired employees from Thane ZP received their pension on Friday after the department made changes to its existing system and latched over to digital processing. Receiving pensions at the beginning of the month is important for pensioners’ monthly financial planning. Previously, the amount used to take at least a week to be processed,” informed Thane ZP CEO Ranjit Yadav.

The preparatory work for the pilot project in Thane was completed within the stipulated time under the guidance of Yadav, with efforts by Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Vaijnath Buradkar and Deputy Chief Executive Officer (General Administration) Avinash Fadtare. A similar initiative was also executed in Satara and Nagpur on the same day.

The beneficiaries included employees from headquarters to taluka-level offices along with 424 pensioners from Thane ZP HQ, 344 from Murbad, 449 from Shahapur, 261 from Bhiwandi, 480 from Kalyan and the rest from Ambernath.

“We streamlined the process by using technology to collect and verify the required information from various levels digitally, which was processed faster, reducing the travel time from the concerned department to the state treasury and thereon to the beneficiary account. The process could soon be replicated elsewhere after a formal announcement,” explained an official.
