M9-Museo del '900 in Mestre (Venice) continues its path of collaboration with other institutions, organising alongside the Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan the exhibition "Noir Time", a solo show by artist Pietro Finelli curated by Maria Fratelli. Open to the public from 19 September to 15 November in the Sala Orizzonti, it is a journey that explores the relationship between painting, cinema and construction, featuring works created in the 1990s alongside the artist's most recent production, focused on the theme of noir. For several years, Finelli has been exploring the genre with paintings that take shape as frames from films never made, giving form to the concept of "film without film": a style of painting that recodes cinematic language through a rigorous analysis of the mechanisms by which reality is filtered and perceived.
The works are complemented by the rotating projection of four films from international cinema: The Woman in the Window by Fritz Lang, Laura by Otto Preminger, Vertigo by Alfred Hitchcock, and Sono Yo No Tsuma by Yasujiro Ozu. "The museum continues its exploration of the visual languages of the present, offering the public an exhibition in which painting becomes an analytical tool for decoding reality," explains M9 director Serena Bertolucci. "To host a project that breaks down and recodes the grammar of cinema through painting means inviting visitors to exercise a critical and conscious gaze upon the fictions and narratives that permeate our everyday lives."
