The GIP (preliminary investigating judge) of the Trieste Court, Flavia Mangiante, will be transferred for five months to the Gorizia Court, but will continue to handle the case of Liliana Resinovich's death in her capacity as preliminary investigating judge. This is reported by the daily newspaper Il Piccolo in today's edition.
The "loan" will begin next September (until February, barring further extensions, replacing a colleague on maternity leave); at the Trieste preliminary investigations office, her position will be filled by one of the trial judges.
The temporary transfer is part of a reorganisation process, Il Piccolo writes, with the court office set to have three fewer officials and a new section that will need to process 12,000 pending requests for international protection. "We need to continually reorganise in order to get on top of everything," observed judge Igor Maria Rifiorati, president of the Court.
The Gorizia court (considered a hardship posting due to the lack of more than half of the magistrates provided for in its staffing plan) does not have the numbers or conditions to guarantee the operation of the GIP/GUP office from September onwards.
Mangiante has already worked in Gorizia for years prior to her posting in Trieste.
