Mumbai: Over 1,100 motherboards taken apart from stolen mobile phones and sold as scrap, collectively worth Rs 1.15 crore, were seized by the Dindoshi Police from Malegaon in Nashik recently. Police have arrested one person in the case.

The racket came to light after a citizen reported two stolen phones last month. On Sept 22, the complainant was waiting at Pushpa Park in Malad East for an autorickshaw when two cellphones were stolen from his bag. Dindoshi Police registered an FIR. The probe took the police team to Malegaon.

Investigations showed that stolen phones were disassembled and spare parts sold in Malegaon. Police learnt from informants that the motherboards of the phones stolen from Malad East had been sold for scrap at Rs 3,000. With the help of the local police, Dindoshi Police raided the godown and found 1,150 such motherboards taken apart from stolen phones. One person was arrested, and police are making inquiries whether the motherboards belong to phones stolen from Dindoshi alone or anywhere else.
