Three people aged between 24 and 52 have been arrested in Veneto for possession of child pornography material with the aggravating circumstance of large quantity, and in the same operation, called Butterfly, two other people are under investigation while remaining free. Of the three arrested, two are residents of Polesine and one of the Venice area; the suspects under investigation reside in the Venice and Verona areas.
The operation, which originated within the framework of international police cooperation, is being conducted by the Operational Centre for Cybersecurity of Veneto, directed by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Venice, with the operational coordination of the National Centre for Combating Online Child Pornography (Cncpo) of the Postal Police and Cybersecurity Service, with the support of the operational sections of Verona, Vicenza and Rovigo.
Cyber-investigation activities, forensic analysis of data flows, cross-referencing of investigative data and in-depth examination of the platforms used for sharing illicit material made it possible to identify five individuals who were regularly active in virtual networks dedicated to the exchange of images and videos depicting sexual abuse of minors.
During the searches ordered by the Venice prosecutor's office, numerous electronic devices were seized, the contents of which will be subjected to thorough digital forensic analysis to fully reconstruct the conduct of those under investigation, identify any additional users and verify possible connections with national and international networks engaged in the distribution of child pornography material.
