Mumbai: The MPSC aspirants’ agitation has been hijacked and has become an agitation of political leaders, said chief minister
Devendra Fadnavis.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Fadnavis said, “Instead of MPSC issues, political speeches are being made on PM Modiji, on national issues which are completely political. The state police have handled the agitation with restraint. Even though there are political workers to some extent, our students are also there.
“A 15-member delegation had come to meet us and they gave us five demands. The first was to remove the MPSC chairman or initiate a judicial inquiry. At the time they were informed that only the President can direct the Supreme Court which, in turn, holds an inquiry and only then can the chairman be removed. All five demands were accepted. While accepting the letter they were constantly on the phone and asked for changes to be made and then gave a letter to us saying they are satisfied and are withdrawing the agitation, and then started an illegal agitation,” said the CM.
Fadnavis underlined that the current chairman, whose resignation was being sought, was not in office when the paper leak happened, yet govt has agreed to an impartial inquiry.
“Despite all this, govt, keeping the sentiment of students in mind, agreed to an inquiry and if any misconduct, then under Article 317, he will be removed,” he said.
“This has become a political issue which is not proper. We have accepted all their demands of both delegations that came to me, including investigation in previous exams. We set up the V Radha committee. For the first time, discussions were held with all stakeholders and based on these interactions, recommendations will be made,” he added.
