An orange alert for thunderstorms over the Central and Eastern Ligurian coast came into effect at 6 this morning and will remain active until 14:00. The Apennine slopes of the Western part of the region are under a yellow alert. During the night and in the early hours of the morning, rainfall affected particularly the far eastern part of the region, with a maximum hourly intensity of 41.8mm recorded at Casale di Pignone (La Spezia). No particular critical situations have been reported so far, although thunderstorms continue to develop over the Central-Eastern area: 45mm of rainfall was recorded in the last hour at Vobbia (Genova). The regional civil protection operations centre will remain open for the entire duration of the alert.
In Como, roads closed due to landslides and trains cancelled. Mud and debris at the station, delays compound those caused by derailment in Milan.
A violent storm hit Como last night, causing several landslides and slippages along a number of the city's main roads. Debris and mud spilled onto the carriageway of Via Oltrecolle, the final stretch of the state road connecting the Lake Como provincial capital with Lecco. The road was closed to allow safety operations to be carried out. Via Monte Grappa, in a residential area, was also closed, where firefighters have reported the risk of collapse of a gas junction box. Problems were also reported at Como Camerlata railway station, again due to the presence of mud and debris along the line, causing disruption to rail traffic that compounds the consequences of a freight train derailment that occurred yesterday evening at around 21:00 at Milano Greco Pirelli, which has already led to the cancellation of four Trenord services today. Average delays of 30 minutes are estimated.
