The man who on Sunday evening stabbed and seriously injured his former partner in Bognanco (Verbano-Cusio-Ossola) was already under investigation for domestic abuse against the woman, with whom he had lived for a period in the municipality of Stresa. The file had been opened at the beginning of September, after the woman had approached law enforcement to report the conflictual situation she was experiencing with the man.
As reported, the woman herself had stated that she did not wish to press charges against her former partner, but investigators had nonetheless launched an inquiry, as they were dealing with an offence prosecutable ex officio. The woman had been interviewed and further checks had been carried out, but initial findings had revealed a situation deemed not particularly alarming, and one that had until then been without episodes of physical violence.
The 44-year-old, who has a prior police record, is being held in prison in Novara, awaiting the validation hearing. The file will then be transferred to the prosecutor's office in Verbania, which has territorial jurisdiction.
