A woman was rescued late yesterday evening in Forni Avoltri (Udine) after going into anaphylactic shock following numerous hornet stings. The incident occurred at an isolated mountain hut with no telephone coverage.
The woman's partner, who manages the facility, walked for half an hour to seek help, activating the NUE112 emergency number. The SORES regional coordination centre then dispatched the regional rescue helicopter and rescuers from the Guardia di Finanza. In the meantime, an Alpine Rescue technician had reached Malga Fleons in a pick-up truck to provide initial care. The helicopter's medical team, who landed by winch, subsequently stabilised the patient. The woman was transferred by helicopter to the hospital in Udine.
The couple's minor daughter, who had been left alone at altitude, was collected from the mountain hut by the Guardia di Finanza rescuers.
The woman is now out of danger. The operation was concluded at around 11:30 pm.
